A young couple acquired their first apartment in a 19th-century palatial building in old Como that has long been subdivided into residences. Accessible via a steep walk-up and locked into a corner of the first-floor plan, its tight passages and somewhat shapeless interiors were to be reshaped entirely. The kitchen was moved into a convenient place along the corridor and the bedroom divided by sliding panels from the living area, raised on a wooden platform and expanded to include a cylindrical shower stall.
