In a delicate project like this we had too many questions to answer, very tight deadlines, without being able to make unforgivable mistakes in the space masterfully designed by Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni in 1961.
How to intervene without altering the light and the magical atmosphere?
How to preserve space without ignoring regulations, as the Castiglionis would have done?
How to transform the occasion of a temporary exhibition into a permanent, flexible and efficient exhibition solution? It was enough to follow the Castiglionis on tiptoe and not lose sight of them, maintaining the spirit "of a space invented with freedom and rigor" as they wrote in domus 385 when the building was just finished.
We thus invented large iron and glass display frames to separate the suspended, lightweight display shelves and to protect the stairs. We kept views from unsuspected angles and opened up new perspectives. We used a single 2.4cm profile for everything, tables, displays, frames, a tribute to lightness and cunning.
In a draft from 1986 Castiglioni noted in the margin of notes for a lesson: "always in the company of graphic designers", here too we couldn't agree more, also collaborating on this project with Daniele Ledda.
