The challenge of installing an exhibition of very diverse material in the historic Palazzo Barbaran-da Porto at Vicenza was considerable, for nothing could be attached to the walls and everything had to fit into a suite of patrician spaces. The interiors are shrouded in fabric, architectural models and other objects displayed on tables, and monitor screens suspended from above. As the chief object of display--Giuseppe Terragni's Monument to the memory of Margherita Sarfatti's teenage son who was killed in the high Dolomites--is composed of elementary stereometric parts, they were suspended in an 'exploded' view so as to reassemble themselves solely from a specific point of view which visitors needed to find.
The rationale of the installation nudged visitors to search for the true nature of a monument that is rarely if ever visited in its alpine setting.
