For a loft in an old warehouse in Montreal I used only panels of opalescent fiberglass, some fixed and others sliding, straight or curved, white cotton curtains on curvilinear tracks and various kinds of lighting to differentiate areas from one another.
Double rows of bookshelves with back lighting separate the living area from a corridor space in which a wide kitchen counter and cupboards of gradually diminishing width lend perspective to depth. The loft enjoys views of a harbor square and backs into the middle of the warehouse with a spacious bathroom, toilets and freestanding shower stalls whose basins are cut from Montreal stone and enclosed in fiberglass. The stalls are slightly canted. The patterns of droplets on the fiberglass combine with billowing curtains in evoking an image of suspended energy and animated atmosphere.
